San Francisco theater performances can be purchased day of the performance for half the price. Run by Theatre Bay Area, all service charges collected from the sale of tickets by TIX Bay Area went right back to the theater community.

Go to concerts, plays, jazz or folk song performance. There are performances most days to choose from by the San Francisco Opera, San Francisco Symphony, in Herbst Theater (where the UN charter was signed), at Old First Church, and musicals in the Orpheum or the Golden Gate Theaters, all located in or near Civic Center . Legion of Honor Museum, which is located in Lincoln Park overlooking the Golden Gate (north end of 34th Ave), has organ concerts which can be heard in many galleries, Saturday and Sunday at 16:00, as well as musical performances by the Florence Gould Theater San Francisco Lyric Opera. For fall and spring jazz festivals look into the SFJAZZ calendar.
San Francisco also has many jazz clubs, best found by browsing the web (an excellent site is SFStation.com). Contemporary bands appear at The Fillmore Auditorium and less frequently in the large Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in Civic Center. There is an annual blues festival in late September, at various locations, and at least two great bluegrass music festivals each year - in February, around the region and the end of September or October in Golden Gate Park. Many, but certainly not all, events are listed by the City Box Office.

San Francisco Ballet selling standing room tickets (with excellent views of the rear orchestra) for their shows at the War Memorial Opera House in Civic Center on the afternoon of each performance as well as two hours before the show.

American Conservatory Theater's Geary Theater

Golden Gate Theatre and play Los Angeles

Musicals from Broadway and Los Angeles will be displayed in the traditional Golden Gate and Orpheum theaters on Market, near the Civic Center. For outrageous fun, princes and paupers go to Beach Blanket Babylon in North Beach. Teens are welcome at Sunday matinees. It considers itself the longest musical revue in theater history.
