Critical Mass. On the last Friday of every month, a bike in San Francisco (and about 200 cities around the world think the same) gathered at the north end of Market Street at the Embarcadero and ride en masse to some destination, militant demonstrate their right to occupy the road. If you are driving in San Francisco on a Critical Mass, you will want to listen to radio traffic reports, but if you are stopped by the mass the best thing to do is keep a good sense of humor and remember that it will all pass in about 5 minutes. Though, and emotions can flare, and there are cases where run ins with drivers and cyclists get violent. If your car is surrounded by bike, certainly not move until they graduate or they may feel threatened.
